About Our Work

Lodestone / About Our Work

01Mission and vision

Lodestone EdSupport is a registered non-profit company and operating partner for public primary and secondary schools. We mobilise financial, technical, and operational resources to reframe public education in service of five priority outcomes — from curriculum innovation to school leadership, community ownership, and new school capacity in underserved areas.

Our goal is simple: create an environment where motivated learners can forge a career path — regardless of their background, ability, or the circumstances they were born into.

  • Curriculum innovation for social and economic relevance.
  • School leadership equipped to govern and deliver.
  • Communities taking ownership of their schools.
  • A collaboration network for shared learning and progress tracking.
  • New schools built in high-demand, underserved communities.
  • Every learner given the chance to thrive.

02What We Believe

We believe that context-relevant education is the key to an inclusive and empowered future for South Africa. Every learner has the right to realise their potential — irrespective of circumstance. We believe that public schools are the beating heart of their communities, and that public-private collaboration is the most powerful lever available to transform them. When schools are supported well, communities thrive. When communities thrive, South Africa grows.

Education unlocks potential regardless of circumstance.

Public schools are a microcosm for the South Africa we aspire to.

Collaboration and accountability drive continuous improvement.

Local decisions, made locally, produce the best outcomes.

03Foundation and events

South Africa’s 2026 KZN Matric pass rate hit a record 90.6% — yet fewer than half of Grade 1 starters ever reached Matric. The low 30% threshold produces school-leavers unprepared for work or further study. Economic growth continues to lift yachts and build walls, while the rest are left behind.

Free or low-cost public education — where 80% of learners are enrolled — is failing them. Massive dropouts, no vocational pathways, zero alignment with employment opportunities. Lodestone exists to challenge this head-on.

By introducing effective public-private collaboration, we bring additional funding, expertise, and accountability to public schools — helping align education with real social and economic needs.

Lodestone recognises that no two schools are the same. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, we tailor our support to align with each school’s context, culture, and specific challenges — working closely with leadership to identify what matters most.
